Program Offerings

Develop. Grow. Action.

As part of will, students are required to complete a will-specific minor in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Two of the required WGSS courses are taken exclusively with other will members. This allows members to build a community both inside and outside the classroom.

Intro to Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies

"Intro to WGSS is a really interesting class that covers the foundational background for intersectional analysis and different injustices in our society. In the section I took, we had a witchcraft unit that focused on analyzing a TV show through a feminist framework. It was a fun and engaging way to utilize the skills we learned in the class, and I really enjoyed the collaboration and discussion components of the class."-Becca DelRosso'24

will Colloquium: Gender, Race, and Activism

"Colloquium gave us the space, the support, and the resources to further social justice projects that we had envisioned since first coming to UR. During our housing selection, we witnessed how uncomfortable housing through the gender binary was for genderqueer, non-binary, and transgender students. We had discussed the creation of a queer LLC as the first step towards a more inclusive housing policy, but, between finals and clubs, we hadn't taken action. We took the opportunity Colloquium gave us and made it our Gender Action Project. Our team  interviewed a breadth of students from different identities about what they would need from a queer LLC at UR. From our findings, we wrote a proposal and had meetings with different staff members who are excited to take on our project. Colloquium took our ideas and made them a reality."-Maria Zambrano Davila'25

Gender & Work

"Gender and Work showed me how the theories that we discuss in other classes manifest into tangible realities for everyday workers. It has helped me think more critically about the world around me, power dynamics, and how I interact with workers."-Parker Hailey'24

will Senior Seminar

"I loved the openness and strong sense of community in this class.  I really liked the focus on youth homelessness, which taught me a lot, as well as the post-grad/career-building focus of the class."  -Magnolia Stuart'22

will Internship

"Doing an internship for will allowed me to pursue a career field that I'd be interested in while also being mindful of the gendered and political dynamics that are present in the workplace."-Katherine Nguyen'24

One Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Elective of Your Choice

"WGSS electives like Queer Literatures, Performing Sex and Gender, and History of Gender/Sexuality in Europe have allowed me to explore a wide range of feminist and queer related interests and grow a greater bounty of knowledge in the field."-Olive Gallmeyer'22
